Hi all,
I was recently trying to lock down my home directory and accidentally set it 0777 - stupid, I know.
Anyway, on the next login I was greeted with an error about .dmrc being ignored - this same error message pointed out that my $HOME shouldn't be readable by other users. So I quickly fixed the $HOME permissions as well as taking the error message's advice about setting .dmrc to 644.
I logged out and back in, and I was browsing around my home directory and checking permissions and noticed that .dmrc was now 600. As a test, I reset it back to 644, logged out and back in and it's back to 600.
I'm curious as to why and how the file's permissions get changed.
