I have been trying to install Ubuntu the whole day long now..
My pc is brand new, and I decided to buy it without any preinstalled OS, planning for a fresh Ubuntu install since the beginning.

I ended up installing XP just to check if the pc was functional, after many failed attempt with linux. Turns out xp works like a charm:(

Speaking of the system:
-AMD Phenom 9550
-Asus M3A78-CM
-Hitachi 500GB Sata2

I tried Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 first, just because I thought it would fit with the processor, but both "install" and "liveCD" fail at the same point:

No progress after the "switch to broadcast"

To be honest, once I even got a different message, once:
"Aperture beyond 4GB. Ignoring" (a bug was opened, and mentioned here. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/271070)
The status of the bug is set to fix released because it seems they fixed the issue in Jaunty.

But an alpha version for my main pc..well..is not an option. I tried therefore Ubuntu 8.04. Same result in a different sauce:

After this,as usual, it got stuck.
I am downloading jaunty now, just to check if the issue is finally solved. Anyone has any other idea?
