I'm kinda new at this linux stuff...just out of curiousity what would be good to use as in spread sheet in linux(such as excell in windows)

openoffice, staroffice, etc all have a spreadsheet application that allows you to do similar stuff to excel. i dont know how similar, cause i havent used it much, but i know you can open excel documents in it.

OpenOffice.org is a suite of office programs included in the default Ubuntu installation. One of the programs is called Calc and is a spreadsheet like Excel. FInd out more at http://openoffice.org

My favorite (and one that shows to be more accurate than Excel) is Gnumeric:

http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnumeric/

You can get it easy with a single command:


sudo apt-get install gnumeric

And it will show up in the office menu.

alright so does anyone know if Calc can sort information while keeping a conditional format?


EDIT: Or any progam, not nessissarily Calc, that can sort information while keeping a conditional format
