OK, I have ubuntu 6.06. I want to go to 8.10. I can't upgrade because it says there is a server or network error.

So, I figure I will just download and burn a CD. So I download the big ISO file. I unpack it, but I can't burn in ubuntu for some reason.

So, I download it to a windows computer. It wont let me unpack.. it asks what program I want to use to open the ISO file. I have none.

I burn ISO file to CD, but it on my ubunut computer, and when I click the file from the CD it just wants to unpack it.

So, can someone please explain to me how to simply create the right CD, and how to then install it on a computer?

Thanks.

Right-click the .iso file, and a menu appears.
One entry in the meu is "Write to disk" (I think).
Click on this entry, and it will extract and write the inividual files to a CD (which will then be a bootable live/install CD)

Don't unpack it; burn the ISO as an image. Here's some info on how to do this in Windows: http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/iso
