I am a complete Ubuntu newbie... but I recently managed to dual boot Ubuntu 8.04 with Windows Vista Home Premium...

For the past 23 days I haven't been able to update with the Ubuntu Update Manager... Frequently I get the "!" notification icon in my menu bar indicating a need to update... when I try to follow through with this I always get the following message:

"GPG error: http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04.2 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386 (20090121)]/dists/hardy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04.2 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386 (20090121)]/dists/hardy/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

and none of the 66 updates that appeared to be loading actually proceed... can someone help me decipher this message and recommend a course of action?

Thank you both for the prompt responses... My update issue seems to be resolved now... everything is cop acetic...

Hardy is a long term support release I personally would suggest sticking with it.

if you really want to upgrade, then wait for a few months and upgrade straight to jaunty.
