I'm trying to install kubuntu 8.10 on an extra box I have. After I choose the language, and the option (Install), instead of installing it looks like I'm getting sent to a shell telling me that the install froze. This also happens if I try to verify the cd on this machine. The error message looks something like:

BusyBox Ubuntu Built in Shell
...
initramfs ata1.01 exception Emask SAct Err action 0x6 frozen

What's happening? The CD seems to be ok, as I can boot off of it and verify it on another machine. The machine should be ok and it's running XP right now without issues.

It freezes if I try to boot off the disk with no install, too. But I managed to successfully use the disk to install on a VM. Does anyone know what would make it freeze on only one machine but work fine on another?
