Hello! I used WUBI to install the most recent version of Ubuntu onto my Dell D600 laptop. Everything went perfectly (the partition was created, it booted easily, looks real cool, Windows XP still works when I boot to that partition etc.etc) except that my wireless card is not recognized or is "off". I am not sure whether there is no driver for it, it Ubuntu does not see it or what? Any suggestions? Please bear with me, I am as new as new can be to this.

First step is to identify which wireless card you have. From the command line, in a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal)
lspciand post the results here.

From your lspci output, you have one of the (dreaded) Broadcom 4306 wireless controllers -- I say dreaded because I have a laptop with the same and it took a LOT of work to get wireless to work -- finally had to use NDISWrapper and WiCD.

Also, you said it is "off" in WinXP. Most laptops come with a harware switch or button that disables/enables wireless. Make sure that switch/button is set to "enable" the wireless.

Of course I have the dreaded Broadcom. I made one mistake in what I wrote. It is not "off" in the XP. Actually it works real well when I boot to XP. You mentioned that there is a lot of work to get the wireless card working...by any chance do you have steps?
Thanks!

Be advised that I haven't tried this myself, but http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185174 appears to be applicable to this problem.

No, I don't have the steps, but if you search in the Networking forum for NDISwrapper and Broadcom, you'll find some How-to's that will provide the steps you need.

I also had to end up uninstalling Network Manager and installing WiCD in its place -- but there are threads on that as well.

Elite Black, you really should start your own thread on this, as your card is different from that of the OP. Do, however, look at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/810#Atheros%20ath5k%20wireless%20driver%20not%20en abled%20by%20default
