I am trying to use xwinwrap to have the helios wallpaper as my desktop background. I had it b4 but i has to reinstall ubuntu. help!

I think i installed it...there are no more desktop icons on my desktop

That's normal with xwinwrap. It's not actually replacing your wallpaper but simply drawing into a window above the desktop but under all other windows. This means that all desktop icons will be behind the xwinwrap window as well.

Bit of a nasty feature but xwinwrap was never supposed to be even distributed, it was just a quickly made hack used to show what kind of things can be done with XGL. When people started asking the XGL developer what program he used in his demonstrations he released the code.
