hi,

this question may sound really weird, but please bear with me. i'm a new ubuntu user (used fedora before) and just installed ubuntu on my acer laptop. during the installation, i was not prompted to enter the root password (at least i didn't notice it). i was only prompted to enter the user password and login.

after logging into the system as a user, i tried to run the 'su' command and was prompted for the root password. but, hey, from where do i get it. it is really embarrassing, but frankly speaking, i don't know the root password of my own system !!

please tell me if the installation does prompt for the root password ? if it does not then how do i find it ?

thanks in advance.

i stumbled upon the answer soon after posting the query, but hey, the graphical sudo thing in your link was something i didn't realize existed. thanks.
