Someone know a good and very-updated repository of VLC and other multimedia libraries? (x264, ffmpeg etc)
On launchpad I've found only rvm for smplayer/mplayer.
VLC is very hard to compile... and i prefer a expert/optimal version of it. When I try I can't get a versione because I don't have some libraries :/.

Thank you very much! :guitar:

Hi,

Cannot help with a repository but can I comment that some of the multimedia sources are not that hard to get hold of under Ubuntu? Both FFmpeg and x264 can be installed here:

Up to date live555:

amr libraries here:

I have compiled the latest vlc myself, although not on Ubuntu, and although I will admit it is a difficult one it can be done. A lot of work though :-).

It would be nice if Medibuntu would add VLC.

I had a big problem with VLC, moving from Ubuntu 8.04 (with VLC 0.8.6) to 8.10 (with 0.9.?): it would no longer transcode to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. But it's not clear whose fault that is. At the videolan.org forums, the VLC people blame Ubuntu, and are very unhelpful. However, it turned out that I found the same problem with Windows and Mac binaries that I downloaded from the official site. Then again, some people seem to claim success, with binaries they built themselves. I tried that, and failed.

Like you seen, I know your great guide! =D>
Very easy with your steps :)
With VLC I've more problems, but I'll try again if I can't found a good repository.
