Hi all

I am new to the forum and also to Ubuntu but I like what I have used so far except I feel the need to try downgrading from 8.10 Studio to 8.04 to get RT. Are there any guidelines for downgrading from 8.10 to 8.04?

Thanks - Jim

There is no "smooth" way to downgrade similar to the upgrade process. I would recommend backing up your data and doing a fresh install of 8.04.

So, you mean wipe the partition and start clean? Uh, OK.

I gather from what I have read from other posts that the version management may not clean up downgraded applications?

Assuming "RT" refers to the real-time kernel, why not just install the one for 8.10?

From what I have read here in the forums and release notes for 8.10, the RT kernel for 8.10 does not support multiple cores, so no SMP. It does not appear that there will be an update soon. I am interested in the Studio recording, and need RT to function correctly for high-priority jackd streaming. Official party line from Studio is to stay with 8.04. My recent experience has confirmed that.

Ok, I didn't know that. Thanks.
