View Full Version : [xubuntu] xubuntu 8.10 X lockup everytime after getting to desktop

I have tried installing xubuntu on my computer and every time it loads, when it starts to load the desktop, the machine effectively locks. The keyboard becomes completely unresponsive, and if it got to the point where icons started to appear on the desktop you can't click on anything. The mouse can move around though. It is very weird.

I have had kubuntu on this computer about a year ago and did not have problems with it. I also tried xubuntu alternate installer, and while the install went fine, when the computer tried to load X for the first time, it locked up immediately again.

Just as a reference point, I also tried opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.2 and the exact same thing happened.

Since the keyboard becomes unresponsive, I can't even do a ctrl-alt-backspace or ctrl-alt-F2 to get to a different terminal and inspect log files.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong would be helpful.

Thanks.
