I am at a lost here. I an new to GNU/Linux and love it. Everything was perfect and I switched my two computers over to ubuntu Hardy Heron. Everything was working great, but, when Ibex was upgraded, both laptops began to experience issues.

The new one is that my laptop freezes on start-up. The status bar goes as far as the first bar. I have to turn off the power and power-up again and it works second time. Weird.

The sound also went as well.

I blame Ibex. Anyone know how to solve the sound or freezing laptop issues?

Thanks. I think best thing to do is go back to Hardy.....

On the laptop where the progress bar hangs; try pressing the power button once when that happens, and see if that doesn't release it (in other words, don't turn it off, just a quick press on the power button).

I have the same problem. Here is a link to my thread:

I don't have the solution but the guy's info might be helpful to you.

Also in my case, the problem seems to be related to my touch pad and the USB mouse that I use. It only freezes when I turn off/on my laptop with the USB mouse plugged in.

Let me know if you find anything!
