#1. i just bought a couple of CDs (RW) and they're all 700mb. i'm trying to install ubuntu 8.04 but the iso is 714mb. now i haven't tried burning it and i'm thinking it should work...

#2. can I do this? burn the CD, boot windows from CD, and install ubuntu on a brand new blank partition that has nothing to do with windows whatsoever, a partition that simply has space, can ubuntu install that way and can i still execute a dual boot that way?

#3. can i install ubuntu from a flash drive (alongside windows, not within) and how big would that flash drive have to be?

#4. what is the most convinient way of installing ubuntu?

i have installed it within windows vista a few times and it has trouble detecting nvidia. BTW, i'm on a laptop. somebody told me that because you install ubuntu within windows, it might bug more and won't be as stable, which makes sense...
another problem i was having was basic visual bugs, like the minimize, maximize and close buttons on top of a window would just disappear from time to time.

that's all guys, please enlighten me a little bit because i like ubuntu, the whole community thing is nice and i really don't want to go back to windows.

And please check the md5 sum of that ISO before you burn it.The general size of the ISO is 699MB,you might have a bad ISO on your hands.

ah,that's not what I meant.Does it boot, and if it does, have you checked the CD for defects from the startup menu?

does it matter what iso program you use?
also, is it complicated fully installing ubuntu from a flash drive?

to answer your question i haven't booted yet because i'm waiting for some responses to my questions.

It doesn't matter what ISO program you use,as long as you burn as a CD image. And use http://www.nullriver.com/downloads/Install-winMd5Sum.exe to run a md5 check on your downloaded ISO.Read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM and compare with the appropriate md5sum given here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/MD5SUMS
