Since I am just about to receive a new laptop I was facing a hard decision, should I?:
A) Copy my existing Ubuntu installation from my current laptop unto the new one thereby letting it live on a third laptop
B) Install anew, and copy my documents, files, etc.
The choice was quite simple, I am proud to have run Ubuntu for so long and the fact that my system just works even after 1, 2, 3.... hmmm herein lies the big question. When did I actually move to Ubuntu?
I have searched the web for ways to determine the age of a linux system. None of the methods will work since my system has been moved from one laptop to an other. So, does anyone know of any files/file-content left behind by the distributions to determine which one was the first I have ever installed?
This will answer the question of system age within 6 months which is good enough.
