Downgrading to Kubuntu 7.10 KDE but keeping kernal

I'm having trouble upgrading my kernel on Kubuntu 7.10. Is it possible to install Ubuntu 8.10 to get the kernal right and then install Kubuntu 7.10 KDE while keeping the existing kernal?

Is there any reason you are using 7.10 instead of 8.04? They both use KDE 3.5.

That is a very good question and I was just looking into that. I'm trying to use LinuxMCE and they require Kubuntu 7.10, but the kernel can be upgraded. My thought, was it's dependency lies on the KDE. I'll have to post this question in their forums.
