I need ot move my current install of ubuntu 8.10 to a larger hard drive. I don't want to do a clean install because my current install is 100% up-to-date and I am suck on dial up so I don't want to resinstall them. Is there a special way to do this or can I just simply copy paste all the files in '/' to the other hdd?

Keir Thomas has the solution for what you want to do. This procedure is also listed in his new book - Ubuntu Kung Fu. I tried it myself and it works. Go to this website - http://www.linux.com/feature/152592 for the detailed instructions. Good luck.
