Openbox and weird looking fonts

I tried to install openbox on my dell m70 notebook, following urukrama's guide (http://urukrama.wordpress.com/openbox-guide/), and ended up with a working system, even if it's not perfect. My biggest concern, as of now, is artwiz fonts are behaving pretty strangely, as per attached image. I tried anything I could, but with no success. I checked archwiki for a solution, but it was in vain. I have the same problem in terminal window as well as in firefox, but in the latter the problem appears only on certain pages...

Any hints? I must say I'm not really too much literate when it comes to linux advanced configuration...
