Hi all,
I have a media server that I have been playing with for a long time, currently running Mythbuntu. I have had a few issues so want to replace it with Ubuntu Server Edition. My question is this: What should I backup?
I'm not worried about keeping the packages I have although I realise I can get a list from apt-get and restore this later. Its more the configuration I am interested in.
Obviously /etc holds most of the config files, is it worth backing up the whole directory or should I be more specific?
Are there any other config files I should be aware of.
Another thing is that support for my hardware is working in 2.6.27-7-generic, but nothing later. So I need to ensure I use this kernel in the next installation. How would I go about this? Can I just back up /boot and replace it on the new machine?
Any input would be welcome
