I don't know if I should be happy about this irritating situation, or just get increasingly grumpy about it, but maybe the Cafe can help.

Basicly, the problem started when I started working normal working hours ie. 8:00 till 20:00, it's not that I'm a total work-a-holic, I just like to get things done etc. So that's not the real problem.

The real problem is that I'm having problems staying up to date with Ubuntu/Linux/FOSS!

For example: I'm a big Evolution lover, I don't know why, but I really like it and have always worked and tinkered to get it to do what I want. As my digital life has been Borgified by Google, and my calendar and mail runs through the hive-mind that is blue, red, yellow, blue, green, red... I've been waiting for better integration thanks to SOC and have been annoyed by things as the repeating events bug.

Now, maybe that bug is already fixed, maybe there is a work-around. But alas, I have no time to scour through threads, google 15 different terms, work the blogs or whatever.

Other example: The wonder that is Docky, one of the new features of Gnome-Do. I remember well when Dave posted the first steps of Gnome-Do and how happy I was as an early adopter.

Do you know when I found out about Docky? Last week!

So how does everyone do it, how do you keep up to speed with all the things you use, your favourite programs, your best Ubuntu hacks or what not. Any advice?

i skim through www.distrowatch.com newsletter every monday

i look at www.lxer.com every other day

i visit ubuntuforums every day for 10-15 min just to grasp the main titles... no need to really read everything unless it interests you

it is easy to stay on pulse of ubuntu via http://planet.ubuntu.com/

of course - http://planetkde.org/ is always interesting

I subscribe to planets for GNOME (http://planet.gnome.org/), Debian (http://planet.debian.net/) and Ubuntu (http://planet.ubuntu.com/), as well as the Ubuntu Weblogs (http://ubuntuweblogs.org/) (Disclosure: UW syndicates my Ubuntu-related blog posts), plus I have blogs for several apps on my Evo RSS listas well as the feeds for GnomeFiles.org (http://www.gnomefiles.org/) and GetDeb (http://www.getdeb.net/). I've actually learned about some nice apps from GnomeFiles. I also subscribe to maillists, feeds, threads, etc., for the apps I use most like AWN, Do, WINE and Sonata. Between all those sources it's rare that something new comes out and I don't hear about it, although all of the planets do guarantee some duplication of postssss in Evo.

For the most part, I don't. I generally browse rss feeds on my iGoogle page for sites that I try to keep up w/ and occasionally I'll come across something that actually interests me. I try to spend a hour or two every weekend to get caught up w/ the past week's news. That being said, my machines all need a fresh install and I'll get to them when I can. =p

Download an RSS aggregator and start adding those feeds.

That's what I do. I have a number of Ubuntu and Linux related feeds in my feed reader that I read to stay up on the latest.
