Its smart of AMD to be able to use both boards. This is something we always got on Intel about.

Nothing about the performance seems to be mentioned though.

The new processors are supposed to work with my 3 year old am2 motherboard. Just waiting for a bios update. I currently have a 3500+ single core so this will be one hell of a upgrade.

It's a shame I'm running a 939 motherboard. :-(

Yeah I was going to go from socket 462 to 939 but I decided to wait a little longer and go with the am2. It turns out that was a excellent decision.

To be honest, the 939 is not the issue on that motherboard, as it steams along, what I would really like is to be able to be free of AGP. :-)

Yeah you can get some really great deals for pcie graphics cards right now. Last year I purchased a 8800gt for 100 bucks. Thats over half the price of what it was when it was first released.

Intel seems to be doing the opposite: their new Core i5 processor, which is coming out later this year, uses a different socket (LGA 1155 or 1156) than the Core i7 (LGA 1366), which means that you'll need different motherboards for the i5 and the i7. Annoying... :(
