I have an old notebook where i'd like to install ubuntu.

I cannot boot from CD or USB.

I understand I can install from within windows but I don't want a dual boot, just ubuntu.

Is that possible?

What would you recommend - putting the ubuntu installation disk on the HD or on a USB memory? (Only USB 1 not 2)

Do I need to get wubi separately or is it on the iso?

Thanks for any help

I guess it is possible to install using Wubi, then moving the installation to its own partition with LVPM, then going back and deleting Windows, but it sounds like a lot of work to me.

What about trying unetbootin? See http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ for some information and details.

Since you are talking about trying to install on an older computer, how much RAM does the computer have?

i've just discovered that i seem to be able to boot from dvd so i am going to try that way (it is only the CD drive that won't go).
