I really want to try Mandriva 2009, unfortunately it comes with KDE 4.1 (No Good, 4.2 is fine though but for stability I want to use KDE 3.5) and Gnome, none of which I like.

I've just downloaded mandriva-linux-free-2009-dual-arch.iso which apparently is for net installations. I haven't even put the disc my system yet so I don't know what to expect as I don't want to trash an OpenSuSE Install if I've got the wrong idea here.

Is it possible for me to use this to install Mandriva with KDE 3.5.10 as it says on the website that Mandriva does have 3.5.10 in a separate repository.

Sure,

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Installing_Mandriva_Linux

You can add software mirrors during the installation and after that you can choose KDE 3 as your prefered DE ;)
