When I try to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my Sony Vaio it gives a blank screen with a blinking cursor. During installation it stays 0% at formatting swap drive for a long time and i think it skips it. During forced reboot i get a message "False start stop daemon called, doing nothing". Followed by "Loading hardware drivers FAIL ". Takes a long time saying "Activating swap file swap........
Finally it gives a $ prompt asks to type in user name and password. Once that is over it returns
-bash:/dev/null: permission denied.
Nothing happens after that.
I am lost.
Please help.
