Thank you very much.

I have installed it in my home directory.

But each time I want to work with it I need to run it from the terminal. Instead can I have it on my Applications list?

You should be able to add it to the applications list. Go to main menu (System>Pref>Main Menu) and select on the left what sub menu you want it under then click on "add item" and fill in then details.

Make sure that you have the multiverse repo enabled in Software Sources.
