how do I install a cd-rw drive with linux and windows xp?

it is kinda old. I dont' remeber the model name.

Is their some common driver or any way I can figure out the model and company name?

You don't really need a driver. Just use a burning app and see if you can burn something to a CD.

I tried that and it can't find the drive. I don't even see the burner drive to be in the drive list.

Go into the BIOS and see if it even shows up in there first.

ok, but what if the bios dosen't show it?

I bet it will not show up.

If the CD drive doesn't show up in the BIOS, then it will not show up either in Ubuntu or windows no matter what you do with it. Therefore, you need to open up the computer and make sure all the cables securely plugged in and the drive is actually working. May want to test it with another machine.

well the bios dosen't see it.

I had a cd with the driver on it. I lost it though. I remeber installing it like 2 years ago.

I remembered I had to install the driver.
