I have just done a fresh install of Intrepid Ibex with GNOME as my default window manager on an AMD 64 PC with built-in ATI graphics and Realtek audio. The installation went off flawlessly but I am unable to find my ~/.bashrc file.
Why does GNOME not create a default per-user .bashrc file? I wanted to set things like terminal colors for prompt and directory listing, and also to set environment variables like PATH and CLASSPATH for java.
How do I get around this? Do I copy the skeleton .bashrc file from /etc/skel and customize it? How do I get gnome-terminal to use its settings?
FYI, I am trying out GNOME for the first time, having used KDE until now and this behaviour is new to me.
Thanks.
