Hello,
I had a similar issue tomorrow on a different laptop model. The install stopped at disk partitioning task, than I rebooted from trial Ubuntu on Windows XP. During the next start I have choosed the "install" option (rather than "try out"). That time it went on smoothly on partitioning task. Otherwise you should check the integrity of install CD... Good luck.

it looks like a problem with the T61? after i had choosen the language, in the next screen i can select "Try Ubuntu without any chage to your computer", "Install Ubuntu", "Check CD for defects", "Test memory" and "Boot from first hard disk". In all cases my notebook is locked except "Boot from first hard disk". Can it be that it is a problem with the hardware?
