I'm running an ATI HD card in Ubuntu, and I've got my regular monitor connected with DVI and my HDTV connected with HDMI. Running the proprietary ATI drivers from the AMD website works great for video... however, I'm only able to get audio on my HDTV by going to SYSTEM / PREFERENCES / SOUND and switching the sound output to use the HDMI cable. That's fine, except then I get no sound on my desktop computer until I manually go change it back.

I don't have a keyboard/mouse in the room with the HDTV, so I can't change the sound to use the HDMI cable unless I do it from the desktop... and I'm capable of walking to the other room and switching it, but not every user at home is as able or willing as me to do this.

Is there any way that I can get sound to output to both the regular sound card audio jack and the HDMI port at the same time?
