A friend of mine is stationed at RAF Lakenheath and he saw this sign on a B road near the base:

What does this sign mean? I've never seen anything like it here in the United States.

I'll take a stab at this: "Don't steal the sign"?

:lolflag:

He was drunk one night, and couldn't figure out what he meant, so he stole it and brought it home to take a picture of it. Why he didn't take a picture of it there is beyond me.

Isn't it obvious? It clearly means:

"No http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/3503/smallthingy01nq8.png"...

Perhaps no drilling? Gas lines?

Or maybe just "No Sticking of the letter T in a chalice or other classical Roman beverage container"...

No photography? Kind of looks like an old fashioned camera from the top down. :D

(maybe that's why he took it home instead of photographing it there...)

did you mean do not use "T" :lolflag:

No, it means "Do not use a bee's nest which has had a 'T' stuck through it."

Evidently, they have some smartass bees up by Lakenheath.

Unless, of course, since RAF Lakenheath has American units there as well, they all drink coffee, and so it's a "T"-free zone.

"It means no cups of tea allowed". You must have something else :p

Hmmm... after looking at it again, it looks like a fancy glass (drinking utensil) with a book on top. Perhaps it means, "Don't free the Genie."

I figured it out.

The sign indicates to people not to excavate between two or more instances of the sign.

Doesn't seem to appear here (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/Signsandmarkings/index.htm) but I reckon the no photography is spot-on because RAF Lakenheath is a sensitive location.

Well.. We deliver to Lakenheath and Mildenhall (Well.. ALL the USAF bases actually) but as Lakenheath is a tactical fighter wing I suspect that sign would be no long range lenses.

They can't ban photography as there are public viewing spots at the end of the runway.

We supply the Commissaries with food.

I figured it out above. Someone on an Air Force forum I'm on said it indicates an area where excavation is prohibited on or near a roadway and that the last time he saw it was on a road that was being constructed. If I could mark the thread as SOLVED, I would. But I can't. :( Oh well...

Well, the sign is probably rotated wrong. Don't prohibitory signs in the UK have a slash that starts at the top left and ends at the bottom right?

The only two possibilities I can think of is no photography and no car horns, but I've seen pictures of both of those signs and they look nothing like this sign.

I've already tried looking on the website for the UK's version of the Department of Transportation, but their 147-page guide on traffic signs did not include this sign.

I think the sign is upside down. It means "no picking flowers" (for a vase)?

The image should be rotated. It is an image of a camera with a long-distance lens.
