View Full Version : [ubuntu] messed up boot paths/loader

Hey all,
I just finished getting ubuntu to work on a dual boot machine. However, I think I have the bootloaders/grub misconfigured.

I have 2 hard drives in my system. One has vista, the other has ubuntu. In the grub menu, if I select ubuntu (the default) it boots into ubuntu fine. If I select the windows vista/longhorn (bootloader) it comes back with error 13. Once I get that error and go back to the grub menu, I cannot boot into ubuntu. I think I have a bootloader on both drives. how do I fix this?

I set the ubuntu hard drive as the first boot hard drive so I believe that I just need to get the bootloader off of the vista drive and get grub set up properly to boot to that drive when i need to use windows.

Thanks in advance.

I tried that and got:

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

I have been trying various combinations after reading some of the other posts about the same problem. Obviously those posts all have different HD configurations.

Is it possible that my windows MBR might be messed up? When I was installing, I clicked advanced and selected the windows drive to put the bootloader on. Since then I switched the ubuntu drive to the first bootable drive in the bios. My txt file that I posted was ran after the change so it is the most current configuration.

Hmmm, the plot thickens...

Sounds like you overwrote the bootsector of sdb1 with grub. (edit: in fact you did*)

Boot into the vista dvd repair environment and restore the bootsector of sdb1. Reinstall the windows bootloader to the mbr while you're at it.
