View Full Version : [ubuntu] Display Nautilus 'Places' pane in alphabetical order

How can I change the order in which Nautilus displays the left pane in alphabetical order? I can change how it displays them in the main window but not the left pane.

I have several partitions and when I open Nautilus, they are not displayed in order. I've noticed that they will be placed in alphabetical order at times but I don't know how that comes about. It seems to be a result of logging off then back on. I use NFS and it logs me into all my network folders upon login so it gets cumbersome looking for the location of the drive I want to access by scrolling down the pane.

This is so in the 'Tree' view as well.

Does anyone know?

Thanks

Open Nautilus .... Go to "Bookmarks" menu > "Edit Bookmarks"

The "Edit Bookmarks" window shows a list on the left. You can drag-and-drop theses into whatever order you choose.

Does this help?

i feel your pain dude, i know what your talking about...

What i have noticed is if i open a terminal then do

sudo nautilus

it opens and i see its ordered, only in my normal login does it not place everything in order...

This is my pet hate in nautilus, too. I suggest you guys jump on here and add your comments (very politely!):
