Hey,

I was hoping to build a few computers over the next 2 years. I'm still a newbie in the way of building computers and was wondering if anyone could direct me to a forum with good community support for building PCs that'd be great!

Anyone? It should comfort you to know that at least one of them will be an Ubuntu PC!

If you're planning to put Ubuntu on it. Here's a list of supported hardware: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/

Where to get it? Shop around and do Google searches for the individual components I suppose, and build your own machine.

I don't know of any forums or a how-to but if you stick around, I'm sure others will chime in.

My brother built his own in a day after he got the parts, though it was an XP machine. He didn't have any experience. You could build much more than a few over the next two years, whether they be Linux or Windows machines.

Don't worry, it's pretty easy. It's basically like Lego.

My top tips:

Compatibility is the only real issue. Once you've got bits that will match, assembling the machine is easy.
Learn about how to take ESD precautions. A lot of people ignore this, but it's important to handle components correctly. Just because you can't see the damage, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

The forums over at Ars Technica are excellent, as is AnandTech forums, and the SilentPCReview forums are pretty good too.

And above all remember when building.....

Never buy a cheap PSU and think.. it'll do.

That rating on the side is peak.. Look for the sustained rating.

#Clue: Cheap psu's have crap sustained ratings.

Why you not use Ubuntu forums for your purpose? When here you'll be answered by many geeks.
Not all geeks build computers.

A lot of them are rich and throw money into computers, but they know their stuff more than most forums. Many members there know really how to make a computer hum, make the timings perfect, what parts go together on levels that go over most people who build computers. Of course, always be ready for fanboys.
