Hi ,

Im a newbie to Ubuntu also.

Wireless Drivers are slowly being more & more supported by Ubuntu "straight out of the box".

I would recommend firstly to check the "Wiki Index of Ubuntu Compatible Wireless Adapters / Straight out of the box" here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported

If you can see that your Wireless Adapter is in the list , then I would recommend to install Ubuntu fresh "straight out of the box" , with the Wireless Adapter Connected, & Ubuntu should take care of the rest from there.

If your Wireless Adapter is not in the list then im afraid you will need to turn to "ndiswrapper" and follow the guide here , should help you get started https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper

If so hopefully it will work without much fiddling around. But be aware that some Adapters can be a nightmare like mine for example the Netgear WPN111 USB Adapter Ive had no success on yet. You can read my thread here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1059251

I have posted a full length step by step guide of how I attempted to use ndiswrapper to setup my Wireless Adapter , and I have got so close.

Hope that helps :D
