View Full Version : [ubuntu] Separating KDE startup from Gnome startup

I installed KDE a while ago on my Ubuntu, but I got an annoying problem of both apps from KDE and gnome starting up automatically on both DEs. So, I'd get everything from double network managers to horrible icons in KDE panel and overglossy icons in gnome!

Is there a way I can separate them and live happily with both DEs? If so, how?

I'm planning on trying again for Jaunty once it comes out :)

Thanks in advance ;)

I have not been able to separate the two either and it is annoying.
My wife uses Gnome but, I use KDE, other wise I would just remove Gnome.

You could always create different user accounts for you and your wife.

Once I create a second account, how do I tell it to load KDE as opposed to Gnome?

You can always choose the DE at GDM, but I don't think it sets a different default for different users, just the default for the machine.
