I am looking for a program compatible with Ubuntu 8.10-AMD64 which will extract mp3s burned onto a CD and/or a DVD.

I'm pretty sure you can just put the CD in and copy the files to your HD.

If you mean an Audio CD/DVD created from mp3s, you should try SoundJuicer.

It appears that SoundJuicer extracts uncompressed PCM only. I need a program which extracts compressed music.

Can you clarify your question? Do you have a standard audio CD that you want to extract the music from? Or do you have a CD with MP3 files on it?

If it's the latter case, as another poster mentioned, you can just mount the CD and copy the files off of it.

Copy and paste.
