The most annoying and useless vehicle modification is a gigantic exhaust...

It's called a fart can, fart cannon, or just coffee can. You can hear them coming/going from over 2 full city-blocks away. They are usually put on small Honda's or Toyota's. It basically consists of a tin can which you can probably get for under $100 and you slap it onto your exhaust. It doesn't do anything for performance and only serves to make the most annoying loud noise ever. There's no point in having an exhaust that is larger just at the end. It is illegal to have an enlarged exhaust where I live but the law is not enforced.

If you can fit your fist in your exhaust or it sounds louder than your engine you have a fart cannon. I've seen 4" exhausts on small cars. I've even seen people put decals on the back that point out their exhaust as if someone might not be able to hear the terrible noise coming from it. If you are going to modify your exhaust at least do it properly. I have Magnaflow on my Mustang GT and it not only sounds harmonic but gives me about 8 hp more. But if someone pulls up beside me in a 4-cylinder Honda with a 4" tin can on the back, their exhaust drowns mine out.

Read the license plate, that pretty much explains it.

Second to the exhaust in terms of uselessness is the spoiler. Ever seen a huge spoiler on a front wheel drive?!

If anything it will make your vehicle less stable at higher speeds. At least it doesn't make any noise. :D

Ricers are funny creatures indeed...

Electric superchargers are right up there on my list of "useless modifications" as well.

Oh, we can't forget that "tornado" thing...they might actually work on a diesel, though doubtful - but definitely not on a gasser - the throttle plate will certainly disrupt any "swirl" the thing might actually create.

Even worse, I've seen ones that have what looks like a speaker cone at the end, sort of like this quickie gimped-up picture:

Looks ridiculous, and it can make even the wimpiest of minivans sound like a monster truck rally.

Perhaps not the most useless, but in my opinion, certainly the most tasteless..

How can you hear the muffler over the loud booming stereo?

There's one neighbor down the street here that turns his radio on full blast when he warms up his car in the winter. You can hear it from almost a block away. The thing is is that the guy is not even in his car when he is warming it up. He starts his car, turns on the radio full blast, clears the snow, then walks back inside. 15 or 20 minutes later when his vehicle is *warmed up* he goes outside and into his car and either turns the radio down or off.

Apart from being acoustically annoying, I've never understood why someone wants to brag about how sucky their car is (which is what show-boating a small engine's exhaust output is).

It's worse than guys naming their band "Limp Bizkit".
