Hi, I have a lot to learn about Linux and I would like to know the title of a good book about Linux (the command line, hardware listing, etc.).

Anyhow, do you think the following book is good enough for a beginner?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596009305/qid=1135006447/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/202-2635705-1699831

Thanks in advance

I hear "Running Linux" is good to learn about it. Personally I just break everything, then google on how to fix it :)

That appears to be a good book. I like the publisher.

I bought the Debian Linux 3.1 "sarge" Bible when it first came out a few months ago. I had preordered it for awhile. It's a good book, but i'm not sure if it's a beginner's book.

Thanks in advanceThat is an excellent book, but it is more of a reference, not really a teaching manual. I recommend "Running Linux" by the same publisher as the best first book I have seen.

Why don't you simply print the RUTE Linux handbook? http://www.chongluo.com/books/rute/

I have an O'Reilly attatchment myself.

I think any book written by that pub house is golden.

Ok, thanks. I think I'll start with Linux in a nutshell (I need commands and I have an overloaded memory:p in my brain). Then when I have more money I'll buy "Running Linux".

The Linux Cookbook 2nd Ed. came out pretty recently, heard it's good. It's by No Starch, whom I greatly respect.

Here's the Linux Newbie Administrator Guide (http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/), which includes a handy print-friendly version. Really, before you go ******* away your money, hit the torrent search sites for Linux books, google around a little. There's so many free books out there. I say this because I asked the same question a month ago, and was given the same answer, and it turned out to be the best advice I could have gotten.

Not to say "don't spend your money on a book," but do see what free resources are available to you.

Thanks for the book, I see your point but I'm looking for books (with many pages) I can read also when I'm in bed and I don't want to print too many pages.

I hear you. I guess not everyone has a printing job they can abuse ;) Really, you should see my *nix shelf, it's growing every day. I don't even grasp half of what I've got (for instance, Understanding the Linux Kernel and Understanding the Linux Virtual Memory Manager), but hopefully I'll grow into them!

Happy holidays!
