After updating to linux-headers 2.6.24-23.48 ubuntu does not use the NVIDIA driver anymore and gives me a low resolution warning. I reinstalled the drivers from nvidia and got it working again, but on restart I have low resolution again.

Do you have any suggestions?

I have the similar problem. After installing nvidia drivers from nvidia, all is working fine (and slower :(!), BUT... Refresh rate of the monitor is 50 Hz. I have NVIDIA 8400M G on FSC Amilo Pa 2548 notebook. Native resolution is 1280x800 / 60 Hz refresh rate. With standard drivers refresh rate was OK! I tried NVIDIA 177, 173 and 180 (latest, January, 2009) drivers. Please any sugestions?
P.S.
And Ubuntu 8.10
P.P.S.

I have reinstalled nvidia-glx-new and restricted module, but I still boot in low resolution, although this time it recognizes the command nvidia-xconfig.
