I tried recently to install Windows 7 beta over a corrupt Vista on another partition, but the installation failed due to disk error or Windows 7 just being crappy.

In the meantime, I'm getting the famous Grub error 17 on boot, and I have no idea how to fix it. I have a boot disk for Ubuntu, but not a recovery disk. I tried lilo from the boot disk, and nothing happened.

Help! How do I get my system to reboot? All the suggestions for fixing error 17 I found on google did not work.

You need to restore GRUB, if you have a Ubuntu install CD then its easy, boot it up and select the option try ubuntu without change to my computer.

Once your in the Live CD open terminal and follow the instructions in this thread

Dont mark it solved if its not, try and restore GRUB first like in the guide, you can access it from in the LiveCD using a browser so just copy the commands into terminal and follow instructions :)
