I'm a total newbie to this amazing OS and a convert from Mr. Gates' miasma. My son installed 8.04 (Utimate Edition) for me along with XP on my old laptop.

1) I could not find Thunderbird in the repositories (other than GB edition) so installed from terminal with apt-get..so synaptic manager doesn't know it's here. Can I change that?

2) I want to move my profile over to Linux from XP (managed to do that for Firefox) but can't find TB to add the old XP profile. Where might it be?

Many thanks.

You can find the profile in
/home/user/.mozilla-thunderbird* replace user for your user name.
