View Full Version : Do you make your own avatar, or just grab a cool image and use that?

I tend to have a bit of fun with my avatar after I've been on a forum more that just briefly. Hopefully folks will either laugh at me or with me. I don't take myself seriously.

This is my current Xmas avatar.

My regular Ubuntu avatar, with a ring donut in the middle being eaten by Pacman, was merely prompted by the general 'Coffee Cup' idea on the forums. Ironiclly, I've given up coffee, as it's been cited as a possible cause of tinnitus. Of wich I have a severe case.

I no longer have my original images for these avatars, due to various computer crashes, mostly caused my myself. ;)

I am an unashamed thief of avatars and of imagery in general. Especially from the internet. If you post a cool pic online, within 24 hours I'll have it.

I used to use this picture, which I made myself, as my avatar:

but people started judging my posts only because of my avatar and not because of the content of the posts.

I found my current one elsewhere.

I made my avatar, although I didn't make it as an avatar. I made it as a logo for my website, but it works so well as an avatar that I use it all over the web. Nothing like a little self-branding.

Occasionally I update my avatar, and it is most generally always a self portrait of me. I used to use Zorro or Sherlock Holmes avatars, but over the past year, I've resorted to pictures of myself. I receive many comments over this fact, too :)

I think it's pretty obvious I didn't make my avatar

I had someone else take a picture of myself

My current fad for avatars and specially on this forum is a variation of the Linux penguins. There are avatars that I really admire, especially the ones of the admins and the mods of this forum. One's that I have tried to copy but am unable to emulate, my skills at gimp being very amateur at best... But I like the one that I have now...

Currently, I have the free speech flag as my avvy (the hex codes for the colors plus the "C0" make the HD-DVD processing key). I previously had a green electric jellyfish thing I learned how to make in Photoshop ages ago. I can't make it in GIMP because I don't have a chrome filter. I also have a blue jelly as my flash drive's icon. :P

I made my avatar on this forum and on Arch's forum. On Cafelinux's, though, I took a picture of a red panda and cropped it, since it was so cute. ^_^'

I always make my own. Currently, my avatars on various forums are:

I sometimes draw random, abstract things with Gimp and use those for an avatar, if I think the result represents my current state of the mind in some abstract way. Most of time, though, I use pictures I find from the Internet -- sometimes with my own modifications.

The current (incredibly cute) avatar I found from the Internet and just added the text under the image :)

I find a cool wallpaper and with my magical powers twist and form it into a shape recognizable in most places as my avatar. Oh, did I mention I add at times things to my avatars?
