in just discovered that there was a new update for amarok, version 2.0.11
i have version 1.4.10 , amarok says that it's using KDE 3.5.10 (i'm running KDE 4.2).

now i want to upgrade amarok to the new version, i removed amarok with adept packet manager and installed amarok-kde4 according to this website
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.0.1.1

but nothing happens, if i remove amarok and then install amarok-kde4 and when i launch it it's still amarok 1.4.10

so how do i completely remove amarok and then install the new version?

Looks like I have the same problem - installed Kubuntu 8.10 then entered the apt-get lines for KDE 4.2 did the update ... running 4.2 now but amarok is still the old one.

Not sure what the answer is, but a lot of folks have found they dislike Amarok 2, which has been re-designed extensively. Might be worth Googling for some reviews before taking the plunge.
