something has gone wrong upgrade problem

So I had ubuntu 7.10 all and installed, went to upgrade to 8.04 and partway through the installation of it all my computer turned off and now when I turn it on it won't boot from the cd and when I try to log in it either doesn't do anything or if it logs in (failsafe mode or a different session) nothing will load up, so I can't finish and my computer just sits there uselessly, I really need help! Thank you in advance!

i think you'll need to reinstall as the previous installation process was interrupted. now most probably your system data is corrupted/incomplete.

if you have important stuff on that partition. use a live cd to back it up first and then proceed with the re-installation.
