View Full Version : [ubuntu] laptop volume buttons don't work

The laptop volume buttons don't change the volume... it gives a picture showing volume going up and down (square pic of microphone) but this has no effect on actual volume. Previously it worked on this computer with same version (ubuntu hardy 8.04).

Previously I assigned shortcuts to the buttons, but now this does nothing! The other shortcuts work. Also, previously I could see the master volume changing when I pressed the buttons, but this doesn't work now.

Thanks for any assistance!

ok, found a solution, though not sure what is going on.
Saw this thread:

Basically if I think it is a problem linked with my installation of compiz. The solution is to go into preferences/sound and devices tab, and change default mixer track (I changed to SigmaTel).
