I'm tired of all these so called "hacker communities" where classical Visual Basic loving 14 years old British schoolboys who spend their time thinking their with Anonymous.

Is there any hacker communities thats not filled up with Script kiddies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_kiddie) and Trolls (http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Troll)?

Does anybody know of such a thing?

Or do I have to start my own? (:P)

Sorry, every community I know of is also field with script kiddies. And I don't think you'll actually find one that isn't, do to the large amount of people that think they're hackers.

From your use of the terms "Script kiddies and Trolls", I assume you mean the hacking of other peoples servers. Which I suggest to you is NOT a topic for Ubuntu Forums.

As a side point, what would you expect from a forum? A seasoned hacked to take you under his wing to teach you the ropes lol :) Won't happen!

A script kiddie is a person who copies code and does not understand the function of the code.

And I do not understand how that could apply as server hacking to you.
But yes, I am talking about server and desktop security.
And I am also taking an education conserning computer security.

I also belive the best defence is offence.
If I didnt learn all the exploits I wouldnt have any idea what I was defending myself from, and I do not need anyone to take me "under their ropes".

PS: Sorry for terrible english. -TheLaughingMan84

Thanks for the PM! This is a public forum and as such, if you make a post here, you should expect public replies.

"That is actually what happened to me when i started out" If this is the case, then you will know of the sites and other channels where "hacking" can be discussed.

Hah. You really think I'm going to believe you're doing it out of protection reasons? If you were, you'd go somewhere like this:

I'm an old member at CriticalSecurity.NET (http://criticalsecurity.net) which used to be the main forum for HackThisSite.OR (http://hackthissite.org)G ... I just got tired of all the cursing and bashing that I rarely visit anymore. But yeah, they're hacker sites ;)

Actually, It's not. I was influenced by J.D Salinger's short novel "The Laughing Man".

But I have also watched/read the "Ghost in the Shell" anime/manga series.

HackThisSite.org isn't bad. They feature challenges that aim to TEACH and explain, and a lot of them are fun and require some thinking. I'm sure there are a bunch of script kiddiez on there who think they are going to learn to hack someone's computer, but it's really not like that. It's def. worth checking out.

well, you might try the forums at remote-exploit.org (http://forums.remote-exploit.org/) (the makers of the de facto Linux Security distro, Backtrack).

Whether that is exactly what you want, I don't know.

I'm more of a hardware hacker than anything. I usually like improving things that don't quite work the way I want it to, which is probably why I like Linux so much :)

When I was still fixing computer battery backup systems, I hacked into one to grab the master passwords so I could change the temperature the thing alarms at, how high the voltage should be to charge the battery, etc.

Software hacking pretty much evades me, however I did manage to prevent a crappy piece of third party software from giving me constant error messages by write-protecting the log file. Oh yeah, and getting around the thirty day trial for software? Set your computer clock to 10+ years into the future, install, then set it back to today's date. Doesn't work with all software, but it works with some of it.

Hacking is fun, but you shouldn't use it for anything destructive.

Out of curiosity, why did you call the random category /b/? I am not going to mention the website, but I think that the idea comes from this website.
