Multi monitor thinking seperatly

I found a really cheap lcd at a local store and grabbed it figuring I'd have a use for it someday. Until then, would it be possible to run a dual monitor setup when each monitor 'thinks' differently? I don't want one big desktop, more one monitor using it's workspaces to do work and the other off to the side staying static, always displaying the same thing but still being able to drag a window from one to the other.

Yes, you run seperate x sessions with xinemara off. Some times windows do pop up on the wrong screen and for me it has been getting worse lately in Hardy.
