Xubuntu questions

Hi,

I'm condidering switching from intrepid ubuntu to xubuntu on pretty old pc (athlon 1800). Is xubuntu as stable as ubuntu ?
I liked the fact that ubuntu is widely used and tested, xubuntu has much less users, so what about its stability ?

This pc will be used by people who are not familiar with computers (tasks are mail, internet and skype) so stability is the most important thing here.
