Hello,

I am on kubuntu 8.10.

I was waiting for KDE 4.2 to be released. Now that it is released, it is still not present in the repositories and there are no upgrades when i click on refresh.

How do i upgrade to it ? Is it stable enough to make the switch ?

Thanks

Well, to get rid of errors like that when I did it I just uninstalled KDE then reinstalled it. But, that was on top of standard Ubuntu so that wasn't a problem. In your case if you have enough space I would recommend installing Ubuntu-desktop or Xubuntu-desktop through apt-get to get some sort of graphical interface, then trying uninstalling and reinstalling kubuntu-desktop.

Someone probably knows a better way than this though, so this might not be your best option. In fact in terms of sheer brute force and lame hacking, it probably sucks as a method of fixing a problem.

Anyway, links that may help:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/xfce
Second link is graphically, but simple enough to do with apt-get from the ctrl-alt-f1.

installing another environment.. then reinstalling kde and then removing the new environment would be a problem..
