it has been 13 days now since my last ubuntu daily updates...

and that's because each time the automatic update checks for any new updates he gets this:

I have been having a similiar problem. I installed ubuntu a fresh and decided to update open office, now I get this as open office won't update and I can't use any office files like word, excel etc:

Did you recently add Gnome-Do to your apt sources? If so, you need to add their public key to your source list.

Grab the key here:

http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x7D2C7A23BF810CD5

And save it to a text file. Go to System->Administration->Software Sources->Authentication and import that key file.

where $KEY is key value you have missed. Do those 2 commands for each repository which you have problem.

I was having the same problem after manually upgrading Open Office 2.4 to 3.
After the upgrade I was getting the same message. So I did what you said, and voila, the problem is gone!

But I get an error message. so my question is: Must the keys be installed first before attempting to add a repository?

Installing Do's website says, these are optional:

gpg --no-default-keyring --keyring /tmp/gnome-do.keyring --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv A5D19FDCAA6ABB440CD3464628A8205077558DD0

I don't know which to input in the terminal first and how to input them.

Hi there :)

I don't know much about this stuff, but GnuPG faq page (http://gnupg.org/documentation/faqs.en.html#q1.1) says:

GnuPG stands for GNU Privacy Guard and is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures.In a nutshell it's a secure feature.

Without GPG key you can add repositories as well, but you can't get information from there - it's encrypted.

Then just run these 3 commands in terminal to add GPG key of Gnome-Do repository:

gpg --no-default-keyring --keyring /tmp/gnome-do.keyring --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv A5D19FDCAA6ABB440CD3464628A8205077558DD0
gpg --no-default-keyring --keyring /tmp/gnome-do.keyring --export --armor A5D19FDCAA6ABB440CD3464628A8205077558DD0 | sudo apt-key add -
rm /tmp/gnome-do.keyring


Update software information and install Gnome-Do by these commands:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gnome-do

Hi please can someone help.
I have followed some of the instructions to resolve this same problem.
However, when I run update manager I keep getting:

I was having the same problem...I tried Gnome do and have not updated since. I had already removed it though. I tried importing the key again...no luck. I saw that there was a gnome do key still there so I deleted it and am now updating.

Why are you running this command in ROOT terminal? Maybe that is a reason of messed permissions. Try to run it like normal user or (if you did it in ROOT terminal) like above:
sudo chown $USER:$USER /home/$USER/.gnupg/*where $USER - your user name.

What you're getting is just a warning. You don't have to do anything about it. Open Office will install fine without the key. It's just a warning that the package manager can't verify the files. As long as you know where they're coming from, just continue and don't worry about it. Keys aren't really necessary.

I'm just wondering why every time I do something in Ubuntu, I have to go through the whole process of searching and digging for a solution (which 99% of the time is a couple of command lines).

I like Ubuntu and force:) my family to use it. But I would be cautious to recommend it to anyone who is either code-illiterate or doesn't have the time and energy to search for fixes.

In this particular instance, if I manually, deliberately, add a Software Source, why isn't the key loaded automatically :confused: (at least prompt me to do so). If I can do it anyway, why not make it straightforward?

I don't know how that would work. If you manually add a repository, then you have to manually add the key, because the program has no way of knowing where the key is, or even if it exists. There is no requirement to use a key, and there is no requirement to use it if there is one. It's just a little extra security. If you manually add a repository, you presumably know it's safe, and installing the key doesn't do a lot of good.

If you have to do something in Windows or OSX, you have to do the same searches, unless you already know how to do it. It's the same with anything else - if you don't know how to do something, you have to learn how to do it. This is not at all unique to Ubuntu.
